The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has rejected the ruling of the State Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld the results of the September 21, 2024, governorship election, declaring its intention to appeal the judgment.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, the party expressed deep disagreement with the tribunal’s decision, insisting that its candidate, Asuerinme Ighodalo, was the rightful winner of the poll.

“We believe, without any doubt, that our candidate, Asuerinme Ighodalo, was duly elected by the majority of voters in that election, and we are certain that we sufficiently proved our case before the tribunal,” Aziegbemi stated.

While acknowledging respect for the judiciary, the PDP described the ruling as a “temporary setback” and urged supporters to remain hopeful as the party pursues justice at the appellate court.

“We call on all our members to quickly rise up from the ashes of this temporary setback as we take our matter to the appellate courts,” the statement read.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles, vowing to explore all legal avenues to reclaim what it termed “the stolen mandate” of Edo voters.
