The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that several individuals begged him not to speak out against US President Donald Trump’s threat of military action against Nigeria.
Wike, on Monday, featured on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme amid the military threat by Trump against Nigeria.
He recounted receiving numerous messages from people asking him to avoid commenting on Trump’s statement, which designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” due to alleged persecution of Christians.
“Before I came in here, so many people were sending me texts, saying, ‘Oh, don’t speak about Trump, this and that (laughs).
“I am Nigerian, a full-blooded Nigerian,” Wike emphasized, expressing his offense at the allegations and stressing that the Nigerian government under President Bola Tinubu has never supported or condoned attacks on Christians.
The FCT Minister described Trump’s allegations as “politics taken too far,” questioning how Christians in top government positions, such as the Chief of Defence Staff and Inspector General of Police, would allow such atrocities to occur.
Wike’s statement comes amid growing tensions between Nigeria and the US, with Trump warning of potential military intervention if the Nigerian government fails to address the alleged persecution of Christians.
