The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a scathing critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, accusing it of plunging Nigeria into economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failure.

At its 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held today, the PDP condemned the Tinubu-led government for its “exploitative, insensitive, and anti-people” policies, which it claims have deepened poverty, collapsed businesses, and fueled widespread misery.

The NEC expressed alarm over escalating insecurity, citing rampant killings, banditry, and kidnappings, which it attributed to the administration’s negligence of its constitutional duty to ensure citizens’ safety. It also decried economic policies like fuel price hikes, increased electricity tariffs, and multiple taxes, which have led to job losses, business closures, and a surge in criminality.

The PDP further accused the APC of policy inconsistency, widespread corruption, budget padding, and treasury looting, resulting in infrastructural decay and waning investor confidence.

In a bold stance, the PDP vowed to resist what it described as the APC’s “sinister plot” to transform Nigeria into a one-party totalitarian state. The party alleged that the APC is stifling opposition through intimidation and threats, driven by fear of defeat in the 2027 elections due to its governance failures.

The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and multi-party politics, emphasizing the supremacy of the people’s will.

On party matters, the NEC ratified the composition of committees for the PDP’s National Convention, scheduled for August 28-30, 2025. The National Convention Committee, chaired by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, with Governor Ademola Adeleke as Vice Chairman and Governor Peter Mbah as Secretary, will oversee preparations. A Zoning Committee, led by Governor Douye Diri, with Governor Dauda Lawal as Vice Chairman and Governor Caleb Mutfwang as Secretary, was also approved to handle the zoning of national offices.

The NEC deferred discussions on the South East Zonal Executive’s resolution regarding the National Secretary position to its next meeting on June 30, 2025.

The PDP, under Acting National Chairman Amb. Iliya Damagum, declared its unity and resilience, positioning itself as the vanguard to “rescue” Nigeria from the APC’s grip.

The party called on the Tinubu administration to reverse its anti-people policies and address the nation’s insecurity and economic woes urgently.
