A group of Fulani herdsmen launched a violent attack on Sabon Gida Minchika village in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State, injuring five farmers on August 8, 2025, at around 2:00 p.m., according to the Kano State Police Command.

The assault, reported by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, disrupted the peace of the farming community, escalating long-standing tensions over land use.

According to sources, the farmers, Abubakar Muhammad, Nasiru Miko, Umar Usman, Umar Sale, and Anas Usman, were in their village when the herdsmen, armed and aggressive, initiated the clash. “The victims Abubakar Muhammad, Nasiru Miko, Umar Usman, Umar Sale, and Anas Usman, all from the same village, sustained serious injuries in the fracas,” Makama reported.

The injured were rushed to Ungogo Primary Health Care Centre, where they were treated and discharged, shaken but alive.

The herdsmen’s motives remain unclear, though such conflicts often stem from disputes over grazing routes or farmland encroachment.

The farmers, caught off guard, faced severe violence in their own community.

In response, the police have engaged stakeholders from both sides to prevent further unrest. “Relevant stakeholders from both sides had been invited to forestall escalation, adding that normalcy had been restored and the area remained calm,” a source told Makama.

Authorities are intensifying efforts to address root causes and maintain peace, urging dialogue to prevent future violence.
