Suspected bandits ambushed and killed Mr. Hilenen Terzungwe, a local hunters’ leader, in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue on Friday evening.
The attack occurred during a patrol along Biriji village in Tine Nune, where Terzungwe and five other hunters were targeted.
Community sources reported that Terzungwe sustained severe machete wounds and was rushed to a medical facility in Tine Nune, where he succumbed to his injuries. His body has been deposited at the General Hospital in Zaki-Biam.
Efforts are underway to track the attackers, with local vigilance groups intensifying patrols across Ukum to curb banditry.
The Sankera axis, including Ukum, remains a hotspot for banditry and violent crimes in Benue.
