Suspected armed bandits have gunned down at least two miners in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State on September 18 around 7:45 a.m. when a group of armed bandits, riding motorcycles, stormed toward Barikin Daji and opened fire on illegal miners from Zugu District of Bukkuyum LGA.
According to sources, the attackers fled the scene before army troops, who were promptly mobilized, could apprehend them.
The bodies of the deceased miners were evacuated and handed over to their relatives for burial in accordance with Islamic rites, sources confirmed.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the attack, and investigations are ongoing to track down the perpetrators.
