Popular Nigerian preacher Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Odumeje, has sparked debate after advising students to avoid certain university courses, describing them as “useless” unless they come from wealthy families.

In a viral video posted on social media platform X on Monday, the Anambra-based cleric discouraged young Nigerians from studying courses like Political Science, History, Microbiology, Sociology, and Library Information Science.

“If your father has no political or government connections, don’t waste time studying these courses,” Odumeje said. “What are you doing with them? It’s better to learn a trade like barbing than study Library Information Science.”

He warned that many young graduates end up jobless because of poor course choices, claiming that education only becomes meaningful when tied to practical or influential outcomes. “Don’t waste four or five years in the university on nonsense,” he added. “I am here to guide you as a prophet.”

Odumeje, known for his flamboyant preaching style and unconventional statements, also recently hinted at running for president in 2027. He told his congregation he intends to lead Nigeria with “digital ideas” and youthful energy, criticizing current and past leaders for lacking vision.

“We need a young, vibrant president — not old cargoes,” he declared. “I think I will come out for president. Are you ready for me? I want to give you a modern life, a digital life.”

Though he did not name a political party under which he would run, his announcement adds to a growing list of public figures expressing interest in the 2027 elections.

Odumeje’s comments have drawn mixed reactions online, with some praising his candor and others criticizing him for undermining academic disciplines that play important roles in society.
