President Bola Tinubu has urged the Senate to approve a N1.4 trillion budget for Rivers State for 2025, following the Supreme Court’s nullification of the state’s previous budget.

In a letter presented to the Senate on Thursday, Tinubu cited the ongoing emergency rule he declared in March 2025, noting that the absence of a functional Rivers State House of Assembly necessitates National Assembly intervention.

The proposed budget aims to create 6,000 jobs by prioritizing investments in key sectors: N324 billion for infrastructure, N166 billion for health, N75.6 billion for education, and N31.4 billion for agriculture.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the letter to lawmakers, and the matter was referred to the Senate Committee on Implementation of Emergency Rule in Rivers State for urgent review and reporting back to the Senate floor.
