A heated dispute over a WhatsApp group membership took a deadly turn when a man allegedly shot and killed the group administrator who removed him from the chat, police said on Saturday.

The victim, Mushtaq Ahmed, was gunned down on Thursday evening in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, an area known for frequent sectarian violence and deep-rooted tribal customs.

According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, the accused, identified only as Ashfaq, was enraged after being removed from the group by Mushtaq following an argument. In an attempt to resolve their differences, both men agreed to meet in person. However, instead of reconciliation, Ashfaq allegedly arrived armed and opened fire, killing Mushtaq on the spot.

“His removal from the WhatsApp group angered him,” Mushtaq’s brother stated in a police report, alleging that Ashfaq sought revenge.

Authorities have charged Ashfaq with murder as investigations continue.
