Northern Senators Decry Zamfara Killings, Demand Justice for 35 Victims
The Northern Senators Forum has condemned the brutal killing of 35 innocent civilians in Kaura-Namoda, Zamfara State, following a kidnapping incident where victims were murdered despite meeting the kidnappers’ demands.
In a statement, the Forum’s Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Yaradua, expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Zamfara, praying for the eternal rest of the departed souls.
Describing the act as heinous, the Forum stood in solidarity with Zamfara residents during this trying period and urged security agencies to intensify collaboration with local vigilantes to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.
The senators emphasized the need for a proactive approach to security threats, advocating for enhanced intelligence sharing to prevent future atrocities.
The Forum also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his ongoing support to security agencies, including increased funding and recent mass recruitment efforts, which they believe will bolster the fight against insecurity. “We commend the President’s commitment to equipping our security forces to tackle these challenges,” the statement read.
Calling for unity and resilience, the Forum reaffirmed its commitment to supporting measures that restore peace and security in Zamfara and other affected regions urging its citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to combat criminal activities, emphasizing that collective action is crucial to overcoming the scourge of violence in the region.
