Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen has been named among Africa’s 100 Most Notable Peace Icons for 2025, recognizing his contributions both on and off the pitch.
This accolade follows a remarkable season with Galatasaray, where he emerged as the top scorer in the Turkish Süper Lig, netting 36 goals in 40 appearances and leading the club to its 25th league title.
Osimhen’s inclusion in the prestigious list places him alongside other influential African figures such as Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah and Nigerian philanthropist Tony Elumelu.
The list celebrates individuals who have made significant impacts in promoting peace and humanitarian efforts across the continent.
Topping the list is Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the trailblazing Director-General of the World Trade Organization — the first woman and the first African to hold the position.
Other prominent Nigerians featured include business mogul Femi Otedola, whose strategic investments continue to shape Nigeria’s economy, and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, a leading figure in political reform.
In the realm of entrepreneurship and development, Dr. Charles Odii earns recognition for his impactful leadership at SMEDAN (Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria).
The faith community is represented by Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of COZA, while Ambassador Patricia Obi-Abu stands out for her accomplishments in international diplomacy.
Rounding out the list is Dr. Saviour Enyiekere, Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission, honored for his contributions to national governance.
The 2025 Peace Icons will be honored at the ‘100 Most Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit’ scheduled for July in Kigali, Rwanda, where their contributions to peace and development will be formally acknowledged.
