NIGERIA, ABUJA – Yuxiang Nigeria Limited, a Chinese-owned firm, has submitted a proposal to establish an electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant in Nigeria, in a move that could mark a significant boost to the country’s automotive industry and green energy transition.
The Managing Director of Yuxiang Nigeria Limited, Mrs Mu Rui Hong, presented the proposal earlier today, outlining plans to create over 600 jobs for Nigerians while supporting environmental sustainability and local manufacturing.
“The proposed EV assembly plant is part of our long-term commitment to Nigeria’s industrial future and to the global push for eco-friendly transportation solutions,” Mrs. Mu said during the presentation.
“We believe Nigeria is uniquely positioned to become a hub for green mobility in Africa.”
The initiative was received by a senior Nigerian government official, who acknowledged the project as a step in the right direction for national development.
“I commend Yuxiang Nigeria Limited for their foresight and recognition of the opportunities in Nigeria’s automotive sector,” the official said.
“This project aligns perfectly with the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering industrial growth, innovation, and environmental responsibility.”
However, the official emphasized the need for the company to adjust its operational strategy to better fit Nigeria’s automotive landscape.
“While I’ve expressed strong interest in this initiative, I’ve advised the company to restructure their plan to reflect current realities and local needs,” the official added.

If approved, the project is expected to contribute to Nigeria’s economic diversification strategy and bolster its role in the continent’s transition to clean energy transportation.
