Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has named his top three greatest midfielders in Premier League history, overlooking Kevin De Bruyne and Frank Lampard.
Ferdinand asserted that De Bruyne does not surpass Steven Gerrard “on any day of the week,” stating, “De Bruyne’s not better than Gerrard on any day of the week, I’m sorry, he’s not.”
The former England defender selected Gerrard, Paul Scholes, and Roy Keane as his ultimate midfield trio.
Ferdinand revealed his Mount Rushmore, or Holy Grail midfielders, saying, “I’ve got Vieira, De Bruyne, Lampard, Keane, Gerrard, Scholes — they are my Mount Rushmore, my Holy Grail midfielders.”
He added that players like Vieira, Lampard, and De Bruyne just miss out on his top selection.
Meanwhile, De Bruyne is set to depart Manchester City after a decade at the Etihad, while Lampard has since retired from professional football.
