In a shining example of determination, discipline, and resilience, twin brothers from the University of Ibadan (UI) have defied the odds to graduate with identical first-class degrees, both topping their department and faculty in the 2023/2024 academic session.
Truth Live News gathered that Busoye Opegbemi Matthias and Busoye Tolulope Matthew, both of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, achieved a stunning CGPA of 3.94 out of 4.00—an extraordinary feat in any context, but especially in a nation grappling with economic instability and a strained education system.
Their journey is a testament to the power of consistency and self-belief. Despite economic challenges that have weighed heavily on many Nigerian students, the brothers maintained near-perfect academic records from their first year to their final year, never losing sight of their goal.
Their academic trajectory speaks volumes. In their first year, Matthias posted a CGPA of 3.84 while Matthew earned 3.89. They continued to push each other and themselves, with both showing steady improvement: by their second year, Matthias climbed to 3.92, Matthew to 3.94. In their third year, Matthias inched ahead with 3.95 while Matthew earned 3.93. In the final stretch, they closed with a shared CGPA of 3.94, securing the titles of Overall Best Graduating Students for both their department and the entire Faculty of Technology.
Their excellence wasn’t limited to academics. Matthias served as Honourable Speaker of the UI Students’ Representative Council during the 11th Assembly, while Matthew led as President of the Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students (SEEEES-UI) during the 2023/2024 session.
