Minister of Works, David Umahi, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to release more funds for infrastructural projects, urging him to ignore critics and focus on project delivery.
Umahi made the appeal during the commissioning of the Deep Sea Port Access Road in Lagos, noting that international financiers have endorsed the project and described it as undervalued.
“I want to assure you, sir, that the international financiers have given you kudos because they say the project is even undervalued,” he said.
The Minister faulted critics demanding to know the project’s cost, attributing their concerns to a lack of knowledge.
“When people gather counsel without knowledge… Your Excellency, I am a Fellow of the Society of Engineers, and I understand the figures; I understand this work,” he assured.
Umahi expressed gratitude to Tinubu for commissioning the first 30km of the project and reassured him of its timely completion.
“I want to thank you for commissioning the first 30km, and I reassure you that this first section will be completed by December,” he noted.
The Minister commended the contractor and urged Tinubu to provide more funding.
“Sir, don’t listen to people. Give us more money; we will deliver all these projects, sir. We will deliver,” he stated.
Umahi maintained that he remains confident in the project’s success, with Section 1 set for completion and Section 2 nearing completion.
He concluded, “We shall toll it, and Section 2 will also be close to completion.”
