Dr. Mamman Mohammed, the Chairman of the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), has passed away following a short illness.

The respected leader, who also held the traditional title of Shamaki Fika, died on Monday at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu, sources close to the family confirmed.

Dr. Mohammed’s death was officially announced by the Fika Emirate Council in a heartfelt statement shared on their official Facebook page early Tuesday morning.

The statement read: “Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi Raji’un. The death has occurred of Dr. Mamman Mohammed (Shamakin Fika), Chairman, Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC). He died at Yobe State Teaching Hospital after an illness. May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah. Amin.”

As the head of SIEC, Dr. Mohammed played a pivotal role in overseeing local government elections, ensuring the integrity of grassroots democracy in Yobe State.

His commitment to fair electoral processes earned him widespread admiration from political figures, traditional leaders, and colleagues, who have poured in condolences describing him as a dedicated public servant.

Funeral prayers for the late chairman are scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Emir of Fika’s Palace in Potiskum town, where mourners are expected to gather in tribute to his contributions.

This loss comes at a critical time for Yobe’s electoral body, prompting reflections on the future of local governance in the region.

As the state mourns, Dr. Mohammed’s passing shows the fragility of life as calls for a swift appointment of a successor are already emerging.
