Zamfara Assembly to Redraft Bills After Governor Lawal Declined Assent

The Zamfara State House of Assembly has agreed to redraft some bills previously approved and sent to Governor Dauda

Lawal for his assent.

This decision follows a message from the governor, in which he raised several observations and requested that the House redraft the bills in accordance with the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, as amended.

While presenting the governor’s message to the legislative chamber, State Chief Lawmaker Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki stated that Governor Lawal cited relevant sections concerning the redrafting of the bills by the Assembly.

According to the Speaker, the approved bills to be redrafted include:

Zamfara State Schools Quality Assurance Authority Law: Establishes the authority’s composition, function, and related matters (Law No. 14, 2024)

Senior Secondary Schools Education Board Law: Establishes the board and related matters (Law No. 16, 2024)

Zamfara State Teachers Service Board Amendment Law: Amends the existing law and related matters (Law No. 13, 2022)

Zamfara Security Trust Fund Law Amendment: Amends the existing law (Law No. 5, 2024)

Zamfara State Local Government Appropriation Law: Provides for local government appropriation (Law No. 17, 2024)

The governor expressed gratitude to the Assembly members and the people of Zamfara State for their cooperation with his administration’s policies and programs.

The House standing committees were mandated to study the affected bills, and the House adjourned its sitting until March 3, 2025.
