South Africa’s Under-20 national team, Amajita, have been crowned the champion of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations after a thrilling 1-0 victory over Morocco in the final.

The winning goal came from Gomolemo Kekana’s stunning second-half strike, which proved decisive in the team’s 1-0 win.

Kekana’s goal, awarded after a VAR review, broke the deadlock in a tense contest dominated by tactical discipline and defensive organization.

The goal was scored in the 70th minute when Kekana unleashed a powerful right-footed effort from outside the box, bending the ball into the top corner.

This historic win marks South Africa’s first-ever youth continental triumph, adding them to a growing list of recent debut winners, following Senegal’s 2023 success.

The victory also broke South Africa’s jinx against North African opposition, ending a run of five previous defeats, all by a single goal margin.

Goalkeeper Fletcher Lowe played a crucial role, making 24 saves in the tournament and underlining South Africa’s defensive resolve.

South Africa’s journey to the top was far from easy, but they managed to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to host nation Egypt in the opening match to ultimately claim the trophy.

Truth Live News confirms that, with this win, Amajita will now head to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile this September as the reigning African champions
