Nigeria @ 62: Osakwe, NRM Presidential candidate, Salutes Resilient Nigerians

Presidential candidate of the Nigerian Rescue Movement, NRM, Ambassador Felix Johnson Osakwe says that Nigerians should be celebrated for their resilience during occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the country’s independence from colonial rule.

Ambassador Osakwe who is a preacher in the vineyard of the Lord stated this in a chat with newsmen in Abuja, Saturday, noting that there are a lot to be celebrated by citizens irrespective of the poor leadership of the All Pregressives Congress, APC administration brought upon the nation.

“The end to the lethargic government by proxy” will come to the end next year when his party will sack the APC in an overwhelming victory at the polls

According to the Ezionum, Ukwani, Delta State-born seasoned administrator cum human developer, the time is now for citizens of Nigeria to be rescued from the evils of the nepostistic and racketeering government that has lost its respect for the people in whom the power resides.

He further stated that, having signed the Peace Accord with other presidential candidates, his party will do everything possible to ensure that Nigerians vote massively for him as he expressed gratitude to the Reverend Hassan Kukah-led National Peace Committee stressing that the organisers must have read through the minds of those he called trucullent political gladiators who may be out to bully other veritable platforms into succumbing to their whims and caprices but promised that the NRM will stand solidly on the dictates of the Peace Accord to coast home victory.

“Our government shall be a government for all Nigerians irrespective of you tribe and who you know.

“Opportunities shall be for all; NRM won’t fund corruption; human capacity building is a major priority to our pary, building a united and virile nation is one of our goals as we shall fans the embers brotherhood across the regions and dwell more all that unite us as a nation under God,” he added.

  • Nigeria @ 62: Ugbome (Ominimini) Congratulates Citizens, Calls For Unity, Retrospections

Hon. Paschal Ugbome, the PDP Senatorial Candidate for Edo North Senatorial District, has called for unity among Nigerians and retrospections as a people on the occasion of the 62nd Independence Anniversary of the Nation.

The Former Edo State House of Assembly Member and Former Council Chairman in his message to Nigerians, particularly to Edo State citizens, said it is imperative for our people to be united as one and also use this day as a day of retrospection.

He said those who are disinclined to indulge in retrospection find themselves forgetting about their past and capable of wallowing in despair.

“I am using this medium to congratulate Nigerians,” the message partly read. “And I am calling for the unity of all people in spite of our ethnic, religious, and cultural differences as a people.

We must take advantage of our diversity instead of using it as a tool for disagreements. It is when a nation is united that it can achieve growth and development as their common goals.”

Ugbome specifically congratulated Edo State citizens and urged them to be retrospective in their respective Communities – communities of thoughts, ideas of religion, class, politics, and of culture.

“I am aware of the challenges we are faced with as a people but I am very optimistic that with the right Representatives come 2023 into elective positions, these challenges will be issues of the past. We are resilient people.

This is why I offer myself to serve as the senator who will be representing Edo North Senatorial District so that I can contribute my quota, as I have always done, to nation-building and serve the people who yearn for effective relationships between them and the government.

The task of building the nation is surmountable, and it must be with us coming together to tackle the brass task.”

    Long Live Edo North!

    Long Live Edo State!

Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Yes… We can make Nigeria Great Again with a breath of Fresh Air.

  • Nigeria @62: Onolememen Congratulates Nigerians, Preaches Love, Unity

The PDP senatorial candidate, Edo Central Senatorial District, Dr. (Arc) Mike Onolememen CON, has congratulated Nigerians on occasion marking the country’s 62nd independent anniversary.

The Adolor of Uromi in his independence anniversary message to Nigerians made available to Truthlive.net said the country must unite and ensure peaceful co-existence among the diverse groups in the country.

According to the former Minister of State for Defence, “it is instructive also that we must unite as a people and make our diversity currency for development.”

He congratulated Nigerians, particularly Edo State citizens, on the anniversary of the country’s independence, which happened on this day, October 1st, 62 years ago, admonishing that without love and unity the country cannot experience genuine progress and development.

In a letter personally signed by him and delivered to us, the former two-time minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria expressed his optimism amid the challenges the country is faced with and called for harmonization and unity.

“I congratulate Nigerians, both those of us at home and in the diaspora, particularly the Edo State citizens, on the 62nd anniversary of the nation’s independence.

Onolememen noted that “This celebration, no doubt, calls for reflections across boards as we cannot say in truth we have lived up to the expectations of our founding fathers who toiled under the colonial mandate to see we were freed from the shackles of subjugation.

They went through untold hardship to see that we became a free nation, and October 1st 1960 became the day of independence after the rigours of their clamour.

“Although we cannot argue that we are not where they envisaged we should be when they masterminded this hard-fought freedom, our generation, with optimistic people, can strive to make sure that uncommon ‘labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain.’

“We are all aware of the numerous challenges we are faced with, which of course is global, but we must be stoic in the face of these challenges no matter how disconcerting they may be now.

We are a very irrepressible people, we must pursue our resourcefulness legally so as to suppress frontally the challenges. It is only through our resilience that we can conquer.

“It is instructive also that we must unite to make our diversity as a people a currency for development through the unconquerable Nigerian spirit.  We can only come out victorious at the end of the day with wholesale optimism.

“I must take my time to admonish the Edo State citizens, my immediate constituency in the committee of states. Thank God that one of the major champions of the independence, Late Chief Anthony Enahoro, was from Edo State. We cannot afford to let him down even now he is no more with us.

“I am using this medium, like always, to pay him deserving tribute, and others who suffered pains to make our independence possible. Our collective ideal should be to make Edo State greater as expected. We must enhance and encourage private participation in governance through collaborative efforts and activities, and support the government through willful participation and distillation of government policies. We must all play roles in the mandate we went to the polls to give.

According to him, “I am hopeful and I wish every citizen of Edo State to be hopeful too. Let us be collaborative in our wishes and pray for a better Edo State. Let’s be deliberate in our joint ventures in ensuring that the state is tranquil, united and makes transformative progress in all facets.”

“Once again, congratulations to us @ 62.

    Long live Edo State,

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he added.

  • Osun Election: Adisa Reveals Reason For Makinde’s Absence From Mega Rally

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, Nyesom Wike and Udom Emmanuel were absent from the mega rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Osun State governorship election on Thursday.

Despite the absence of Governor Makinde from the PDP mega rally, he ensured that adequate logistics arrangement was made to convey party members from the Ibadan Airport to Osogbo.

This is according to his Chief Press Secretary, Taiwo Adisa who confirmed to newsmen that the Governor’s absence has no bearing on any perceived disappointment over the decision of the PDP presidential flag bearer to choose Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate.

The absence of the three governors at the rally raised eyebrows as speculation became rife that they did not attend because of their anger over the presidential flag bearer choice of running mate.

In an attempt to debunk the rumours, Adisa stated that it is wrong to ascribe the governor’s absence at the rally to the running mate issue.

He explained that the Oyo State Chief Executive was unable to attend the Osogbo event because he had been outside the country to attend to crucial issues in Europe which clashed with the timing of the Osogbo rally.

The governor’s spokesman revealed that Makinde had however directed that sufficient logistics support be provided for the rally, especially for the ferrying of personalities from the Ibadan Airport to Osogbo.

He said: “Apart from all these, the Chief of Staff to the Governor led officials of Oyo State to the rally. So, there is no truth in the speculations linking the absence of Makinde from the Osogbo rally to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s Vice Presidential candidacy.”

Similarly, the immediate past National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiya, informed that he was fully aware that the Akwa-Ibom State Governor would have been in Osogbo but for some circumstances beyond his control.

According to him, Governor Emmanuel has no issue with the choice of Okowa as running for Atiku.

“He is equally not at war with the leadership of the party over the matter. His absence from the Osogbo campaign rally was actually due to circumstances beyond his control,” the former PDP spokesman added.

On Wike, a source close to his office also affirmed that the Rivers Governor did not stay away from the rally to give expression to his disappointment over his non-selection as the PDP presidential running mate.

The source who wished to remain anonymous because of lack of authorization to speak on the matter said there was no truth in the speculation that the former presidential aspirant shunned the meeting deliberately.

The source stated: “Look, you know that the governor has been out of the country for about a week now. In fact, he just arrived on Thursday night from the United Kingdom (UK).”

“I want to also say that there is no truth in the speculations that Wike is leaving the PDP for any party at all. He won’t do that. He is a big leader and stakeholder in the PDP. Let’s not continue to propagate empty speculations.”

The source further stated that, “The recent visit to the Rivers governor by some of his All Progress Congress (APC) counterparts in Port Harcourt was not enough to speculate that Wike would dump the PDP.”

“There are lots of relationships that could have necessitated the visit. The Ekiti State Governor is chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum where Wike plays a prominent role. The Ondo State governor is chairman of the Southern Governors Forum and in that forum too, the River State Governor is a known leader.”

“The Lagos State Governor is sharing responsibilities with the Rivers State Governor with respect to the Value Added Tax (VAT) issue. So, as you can see, those specifications about Wike’s defection are untrue.”

“For our judicial officers, we known the challenges of this country, for Cross River State in particular, we are quite sensitive to all the concerns raised so far. That is why we set up a committee to review the conditions of service of judicial officers to make for better service delivery.

  • C’River: Residents Lament Lack Of Access Road To Operikwu, Igede Idi Communities

Residents of Operikwu and Igede Idi a in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State have raised the alarm over what they described as the complete absence of government’s presence in their communities.

The residents decried how they had been marginalized by both the state and federal governments, lamenting their abandonment by both the state and federal government, occasioned by the lack of access road from Yahe community to Igede Edi community, especially now that the rains are failing.

They lamented, “The only wood bridges that link the community with other communities in Yala Local Government Area were locally constructed through effort of the communities – Ehwum Odudu to Oyoba Road bridge; Ehwum AGC Operikwu to Owere Road bridge.

“The last one was Ocheche-Igbakobor-Operikwu bridge. We cannot even pass there now, all because of bad politics.”

On the PVC issue, they averred that through community efforts, “our people were able to get one system that worked for only two days in two polling units in Operikwu community.”

They added, “Many had been left unregistered due to bad network, despite our assistance to the staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, who were on ground for the PVC registration exercise in the community.”

Speaking on behalf of Igede Edi community, when he fielded questions from CompassNG correspondent on allegations made by the community residents yesterday that their people had been grossly marginalized in all aspects of life, the youth leader in the community, Patrick Agogo, stated that the absence of basic amenities in the community has marred the community’s chances of becoming developed.

He said, “You cannot drive to our community as it stands now. Any attempt to drive to the community during the rainning seasons, your vehicle will get stuck in the mud until we approach the dry season, before you can get the vehicle pulled out from the mud, which is everywhere on the road.

“When you find a community in such a condition, how then do such a community withness development? It would be difficult.

“It’s the more reason we why we are calling on the state and federal governments to come to our rescue, so that the community can have the basic infrastructure that can attract development into the our community.

“As a people we deserve electricity, good and portable drinking water for our people to live healthily. Our community has been so marginalized. Our people are in dire need of government presence in our community.”

While lamenting INEC’s inability to capture the community residents in the ongoing permanent voter cards registration exercise to enable the community residents participate in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, the youth leader stressed that the absence of basic infrastructure in the area stalled the biometric registration that aides the people to obtain their permanent voter cards, PVCs, to enable them take part in the forthcoming general elections scheduled for next year.

The community residents called on the INEC to find an alternative means of getting the bad network issue resolved so that their people dosen’t remain disenfranchised.

The community leader added, “As it stands now, half of our people remained unregistered in the ongoing PVC registration.

“The attendant effect is that many are already disenfranchised, unless something is done urgently to salvage the situation, half of the community residents won’t participate in the general elections.

“How can our people not be registered, even when they are willing and very eager to participate in the electoral process, and you come here only to tell us that we can’t register and get our PVCs due to poor and bad network?”
