    ABUJA, NIGERIA – Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio, has praised his wife, Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, for her humanitarian work as she marks her birthday.

    In a statement personally signed, Akpabio described her as “God-fearing” and “impactful,” noting her devotion to women, children, and the vulnerable.

    “She changed frowns to smiles,” he said, recalling her tenure as First Lady of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015.

    The message was contained in a public goodwill note signed by the Senate President on his social media handle.

    CALABAR, NIGERIA – Cross River Governor Bassey Edet Otu has inaugurated the Local Government Service Commission Complex, demanding discipline and productivity from workers across the state.

    The facility, abandoned for over a decade, was revived in 2023 and completed under Otu’s administration in less than two years.

    “No project under my watch will be abandoned,” the governor declared in Calabar, citing a 40% completion rate of inherited projects.

    Otu emphasized that restoring workers’ morale requires systemic change, urging staff to eliminate ghost workers and match government’s efforts with dedication.

    “We’ll pay gratuities within a week of retirement,” Otu pledged, “but ghost workers delay our progress. We must restore integrity in service.”

    CALABAR, NIGERIA – The Calabar Municipal Council has commenced the long-awaited remodeling of the Ikot Ishie Market, in a move aimed at boosting economic activity and fulfilling campaign promises to improve public infrastructure.

    Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Chairman of the Calabar Municipal Council, Apostle James Anam, said the project was a necessary step toward modernizing the market and aligning it with current economic realities.

    “This is not just about infrastructure,” Anam stated, “it’s about transforming the lives of our people and supporting the vision of Governor Bassey Edet Otu for sustainable development across Cross River State.”

  • Vehicle Falls Off Otedola Bridge, Leaving Four Injured

    A private vehicle carrying at least four passengers plunged off the Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, in the early hours of Monday.

    As at the time of filing this report, is still unclear whether fatalities among the occupants, although all four sustained injuries.

    Although emergency responders had yet to arrive at the scene, but bystanders and first responders were seen attempting to rescue the trapped passengers from the wrecked vehicle.

    Truthlive News recalls that recently, at least one six people lost their lives when a gas-laden truck lost control and exploded in flames at the same location.

    The latest accident has caused confusion in the area, with traffic rapidly building up as motorists slow down while approaching the scene.

  • ‘Unmatched Legacy’: Mayor Declares Etubom Bassey Ekpo’s Impact Will Outlive Generations”

    CROSS RIVER, CALABAR – The Mayor of Calabar Municipality, Apostle James Anam, has praised the late Etubom Bassey Ekpo Bassey for his pivotal role in the foundational development of Calabar Municipality.

     

    Speaking during a condolence visit to the late Bassey’s family in Calabar, Anam described the former council chairman, who served between 1987 and 1989, as “a great statesman and visionary whose contributions to the growth of Calabar remain indelible.”

     

    “He was not just a leader but a gifted orator who laid the groundwork for sustained progress in the Municipality,” the Mayor said. “We are here not only to mourn, but to celebrate a legacy of excellence and integrity.”

     

    The delegation, led by Mayor Anam, included the Deputy Mayor, Pastor Okon Nyong; Council Secretary, Comrade Iso Bassey Edim; Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Ekanem Henshaw; and Director of General Services and Administration, Princess Omah Bassey Edim, along with other political appointees.

  • Insecurity: One Killed Others Injured As Suspected Herders Attack Edo Community

     

    At least one person has been feared killed and others injured in Ukhun community in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

    The incident according to sources took place over the weekend despite the concerted effort by the state government to curb the menace of kidnappe herdmen attacks in the state.

    In a video currently making the rounds on the social media since yesterday, a resident could be heard calling out for help saying, “Situation report, situation report. This is Ukhun community in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State. We are under attack, Ukhun Kingdom is under attack.

    “We are under attack right now, the Fulani herdsmen, they have blocked the road. They killed Mr. Dan, an Igbira man living in Ukhun in the bush this morning and we are still looking for some people in the bush. We are under attack.

    “To whom it may concern, we need governments support, we need rescue. We need to be rescued from this mayhem.

    “Please, anyone that is so concerned about this, we are reporting live from Ukhun, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

    “Please, this is a situation report,” the one minute 30 seconds video said.

    It was disclosed that the suspected herders attacked some of the people who are predominantly farmers on the way to their farms.

    The Herders it was gathered made attempts to kidnap them on their way to their respective farms, but some of the farmers managed to escape through divine intervention.

    According to residents of Ukhun, the attacks and kidnapping have become too frequent in the community.

    They said that just last month, February, one Mallam Bello Obadan was macheted and kidnapped on his way to the farm.

    Reacting to the development, the Onojie of Ukhun, Zaiki Thomas Omoigiade, appealed to Governor Monday Okpebholo, the Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Betty Otimenyin, Director DSS, Mr. Bello Bakori, Director of Edo State Security Network, CP Friday Ibadin (retd) and the Divisional Police Officer, Ekpoma to come to their rescue.

     

    “Ukhun is in dire need of government intervention and assistance to protect their lives and property,” Chief Omoigiade said

    On his part, Alex Eguakhide, Chief Executive Officer of FECHA Project Ltd, appealed to the state government to rise to the occasion of safeguarding lives and property of the people of Ukhun community, who are in dire need of protections.

    He said the people who are peasant farmers can no longer go to their farms because of fear of being kidnapped or killed by these suspected herdsmen.

    Eguakhide said the ugly incident has made life unbearable for the agrarian community as they can now barely feed their families.

    He noted that nowhere was safe anymore for his people and that something should be done urgently to arrest the situation and bring the invaders to book.

    Following the incident, he Divisioner Police Officer, DPO, in Ekpoma, Solomon Ekeweye, was said to have led some policemen on assessment tour of the crime scene.

  • Woman Slumps, Dies After Church Service In Edo

    A yet to be identified woman has slumped and died near a Point of Sale (POS) stand, 5-junction, Benin City, while trekking home after early Sunday service.

    Immediately she slumped, she was said to be rescued by passersby to a private hospital beside Uwa Market, Television Road, where she was certified dead by a medical Doctor.

    One of the passersby who took the woman to the hospital, and identified himself as Osamudiamen, said no mobile phone or any contact list was found with the victim when her bag was checked, making it impossible to contact the victim family.

    He lamented that the resolution by the hospital management not to keep the victim’s corpse in their mortuary even after several hours plea, and more so the fruitless search for the deceased family members with the support of other concerned residents, complicated their nightmare.

    Osamudiamen said, “The incident happened at 5-junction. The woman was trekking on the road after attending early morning church service. And she suddenly slumped near a PoS stand.

    “When we saw her, we mobilized ourselves and assisted her. When we opened her bag, we noticed that she had no phone that we could use to contact any known family member.

    “When we took her to the hospital, beside the market, the hospital confirmed her dead, and that she had High Blood Pressure”, Osamudiamen said.

  • Woman Dies After Jumping Off Third Mainland Bridge

    A yet to be identified woman has died after allegedly jumping off the Third Mainland Bridge into the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront, an intelligence source has confirmed.

    Truth Live News gathered from counterterrorism expert, Zagazola Makama that the incident happened around 3 p.m. on Thursday.

    “We received information that a woman suddenly stopped on the bridge and jumped into the water. No identification documents were found on her,” the source said.

    It was gathered that the Marine Police Division in Akoka was alerted about an hour later, prompting a swift response from a team of marine police officers.

    “She was pulled out of the water and rushed to the UNILAG shore, where medical personnel examined her. Unfortunately, she was confirmed dead,” the source added.

    The woman’s remains have since been deposited at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) morgue in Yaba for preservation and autopsy.

    Meanwhile, another Police sources said that the Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation to establish her identity and uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.

    “The investigation is ongoing, and we urge anyone with information about the deceased to come forward,” said Police sources
