  • NNPC Guarantees Nigerians Of Product Sufficiency

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC has assured Nigerians that it has 1.9billion liters of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS)which should last the country for 32 days, despite the long fuel queue in the FCT.

The group also promised that things would be back to normal in a few days.

This was revealed by the Group Executive Director, Downstream, Yemi Adetunji, at an inspection tour of filling stations across the FCT.

The shortage of fuel are increasingly a frequent worry in large cities like Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Drivers and business owners who depend on the premium motor spirit to power their cars or generators have been seen waiting in the hot heat for long periods of time to buy fuel.

In some parts, they have even started keeping vigils outside gas stations in the hopes of finding fuel to buy.

The NNPC continues to maintain that it has enough PMS in stock to endure for more than 32 days despite these obvious problems.

Yemi Adetunji, the group executive director downstream, claims that the group is doing everything possible to guarantee the nation’s energy security.

He promised that with Lagos sorted out, the company in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders will soon bring the situation in Abuja to an end.

The CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed, confirmed a positive change in supply of products from about 70 to an average of 140 trucks in 3 days.

He urged marketers against selling above the government’s approved pump price as any station that engages in such sharp practices will be sanctioned accordingly.

Some motorists who spoke with journalists during the inspection of various fuel stations lamented the worsening situation while calling on relevant authorities for a quick fix.

This is one of the statistics included in the UN agency’s 2022 drug report.

The UNODC report estimates that, approximately 284 million people worldwide between the ages of 15 and 64 used drugs in 2020.

This stands for a twenty six percent increase from the previous decade.

This will also enhance the visibility of treatment of care for those with substance use disorder and facilitate their re integration into society.

According to the United Nations, while some progress has been made, more needs to be done by exposing children to skills that will help them deal with the challenges of drug use and abuse.

It also paves way for the inclusion of counseling services in primary health care clinics.

  • House Of Reps Paves Way For Inquiry Into Functions Of MDAs

The House of Representatives has started an investigative hearing into the alleged duplication of functions of government agencies.

The goal is to curtail the activities of the Ministries, departments, and agencies in the overall interest of the country.

Over time, agencies of the federal government have clashed in the execution of their functions.

These agencies with similar roles and responsibilities fail to synergize, thereby creating unhealthy rivalry.

An ad-hoc committee was put together to streamline, merge and where necessary, scrap some agencies to achieve efficiency and cut costs.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila says uncertainty arises when multiple agencies perform the same functions.

He said that this leads to squabbling, suspicion, and eventual duplication of efforts, as well as a waste of hard-earned government resources and time.

The government’s Representative agencies and organized labor consent on the subject at the technical session.

  • Again: Absence Of Mompha Stalls N6bn Fraud Trial

The Absence of social media celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha (alias Mompha), again, on Thursday, stops his alleged N6billion money laundering trial before an Ikeja Special Offences Court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has in January 2022, charged Mompha and his company, Ismalob Global Investment Ltd., on eight counts of allegedly laundering six billion Naira.

In the past week, Justice Mojisola Dada issued a bench warrant for his arrest following his absence in court.

The court also revoked the bail it earlier granted to the defendant.

The social media celebrity was also absent in court on June 16.

On June 10, the EFCC accused him of flouting the court’s order by travelling to Dubai with a new international passport.

On Thursday, EFCC counsel, Samuel Daji, told the court that the commission was still in the process of re-arresting Mompha and he asked the court to adjourn the case.

“My lord, we are still making frank efforts to re-arrest the defendant wherever and whenever he is found.

“We humbly ask for another date from the court,” he said.

Defence counsel, Kolawole Salami, also prayed the court for an extension of time to bring the defendant to court.

“My lord, we are working with the prosecution to make sure that the defendant is brought back to court.

“We confirm with the prosecution and also plead for another date,” he said.

Justice Dada adjourned the case until Sept. 21 for further report.

The charges against Mustapha include alleged conspiracy to launder money obtained through unlawful activities, and laundering of money obtained through unlawful activities.

The other allegations include retention of proceeds of criminal conduct, use of property derived from an unlawful act, possession of a document containing false pretences, and failure to disclose assets.

  • Tinubu’s Indecision Over Running Mate Shows He Is Unprepared To Lead Nigeria – Ologbondiyan

Kola Ologbondiyan, immediate past National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday said Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has demonstrated that he is not prepared to occupy the highest political office in Nigeria in 2023.

He made this observation in an interview with the media, adding that the fact that Tinubu is still searching for a running mate one month after winning the APC presidential primary clearly shows that he is not prepared to lead Nigeria, despite saying becoming the president is his lifelong ambition.

While expressing confidence that the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar will win the election, Ologbondiyan said Nigerians will never allow APC to stay beyond May 2023 as the party will go into extinction after President Muhammadu Buhari leaves office.

He said “I find it very strange when people speak about the candidature of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2023 presidential election.  If the best that can come out of APC is Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who has been searching for a running mate almost one month after he won the primary and he has to use a placeholder in his form to INEC, that shows unpreparedness on his part”.

“ It is crystal clear that in spite of the fact that Asiwaju Tinubu wants Nigerians to believe that his presidential ambition is a lifelong thing, his action has shown that he was just mouthing it that becoming president is his lifelong ambition. He is not prepared for it”.

“If he was prepared for the presidency, he would not have been waiting since he won the presidential primary for him to nominate his running mate. Also, the fact that what we are hearing now are issues bordering on whether he attended a primary school or didn’t attend a college shows clearly the level of unpreparedness of the APC”.

“It also shows clearly the fact that the APC, just like it did in 2015 and 2019 is taking Nigerians on a journey of nowhere and it will amount to absurdity for Nigerians to watch and allow themselves to be misled once again by a people who have no slightest clue of what good governance is at the national level”.

“The media industry is the most distressed in the country.

“Our members are subjected to irregular salaries, no allowances, despite the many hazards that attend our jobs.

“We are often, needlessly harassed by security agencies.

“To cap it all, there are no insurance policies available to us,” Garba said.

One of the awardees at the Press Week event happened to be reporter who was subjected to punitive transfer for reporting the other side of a political divide in a participatory multi-party democracy in the state.

Asking the governor to see the the plight of journalists, the Chairman of the Correspondent Corps challenged governor AbdulRazak to be the media’s advocate in the corridors of power.

“We understand your limitations as governors.

“But as chief executive of your state, you can be our ambassador in the power circles were policy decisions are made,” he said.

Governor AbdulRazak vowed to do more in the areas of governance after being awarded winner of the Human Capital Development Advocate Award while also dedicating it to all residents in his state.

  • FIBA World Cup Qualifiers: Alan Major Blames High Turnover For D’Tigers’ Loss

D’Tigers stand-in head coach, Alan Major says the team must take care of the ball when they face Mali in their next game after the 70-79 points loss to Cape Verde at the on-going FIBA World Cup qualifiers

He highlighted the team’s turnover ratio and rebound efforts which he said was responsible for the team’s 70-79pts loss despite crediting the team for their resilience and hardwork.

“They (Cape Verde) had 16 points from our turnovers, 11 second-chance points from 16 offensive rebounds. These are some things we can clean up, but I do like the effort. We fought back and had the lead, but we gave up a big put back to Williams Tavares.

“Congratulations to Cape Verde, they played well. They got a cushion on us at halftime. I thought our guys did a great job by fighting back to take the lead towards the end of the match, but you know in a game like this, you do not have much margin for error”, Major explained.

He said the team got scared towards the end of the game and rushed their plays in a quest to restore their lead, giving their opponent the winning edge.

“We just have to go back, watch some films, clean up some things and be ready to play tomorrow”.

After winning the first quarter, 15-14 points, Cape Verde took charge in the second quarter, 25-11 to head into halftime with a 39-26pts lead.

D’Tigers’ performance in the second quarter haunted the team despite a spirited effort in the second half, 21-17, 17-17pts

Ikenna Ndugba and Christian Mekowulu led the scoring for D’Tigers and Uchenna Iroegbu contributed 12 points. Mekowulu picked 13 rebounds while Benjamin Emelogu had 4.

Chimezie Metu posted a double-double performance with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He said the team wanted a win but lost to a more prepared team.

“We wanted to go out there and try to win the game. We did that for stretches of the game but Cape Verde played together. They have been together and practicing more than we have”.

He believes the team has what it takes to win their next two games and finish the first round strongly. The team has seven (7) points from four (4) matches and will face Mali tomorrow (Saturday)
