  • Breaking: Israel Adesanya Defeats Jared Cannonier, Retains Middleweight Tittle

Nigerian-born New Zealand professional mixed martial artist, kickboxer, and former boxer with multiple championship, Israel Adesanya defended his belt yet again, defeating Jared Cannonier without breaking much of a sweat in the main event of UFC 276.

Whether or not anyone was giving more than a puncher’s chance to Jared Cannonier against Israel Adesanya didn’t seem to matter to “The Killa Gorilla” ahead of UFC 276.

Cannonier was insistent that he had shut out the noise and external distractions, and was focused on one thing: claiming Adesanya’s middleweight title.

Adesanya, the champion, appeared as confident as ever during Fight Week. With a win, he’d likely secure a much bigger fight against the winner of Alex Pereira vs. Sean Strickland earlier in the night.

Adesanya started the fight with a leg kick, then tried to go to the body with a kick but came up short. Cannonier whiffed on a heavy overhand right. Adesanya landed a right uppercut and was in control of the fight in the early going. His jab was landing with ease. Adesanya whipped a head kick a bit too high, but after five minutes, Cannonier was not offering much aside from leg kicks.

The second round started a bit slower than Cannonier preferred, as he landed a leg kick about a minute in. Adesanya answered with two of his own. Cannonier countered a leg kick with a right hand. The leg kicks from Cannonier were coming in heavy. A right hook to the body connected for Adesanya, but Cannonier connected with a big right hand. An eyepoke briefly paused action and Adesanya opened up his striking to close out the round.

Adesany started the third round with a few leg kicks and then really started pumping out the jab. Cannonier tried clinching, but Adesanya simply threw him aside. He tried again a minute later and landed a few hooks in the clinch to do some damage. A jab from Adesanya snapped Cannonier’s head back. Cannonier’s striking was more present in the third round, but he was still struggling to land cleanly. Cannonier clinched up again, but could not get anything off of it. However, it was Cannonier’s best round of the fight up until that point.

The jab of Adesanya was front and center once again. A hard body kick hit Cannonier, who tried charging in but came up empty on a right hook. Cannonier clinched up briefly, but broke away and landed a right hand. Cannonier landed a leg kick and clinched up with Adesanya. Cannonier landed a hook on the exit and needed to put together something special to win the title.

Cannonier fired a right hand over the top to start the final round. A leg kick landed for Adesanya after he dodged a hook from Cannonier. Adesanya popped a few jabs and a kick up the middle. The champion was in control, but at the midway point, Cannonier was able to get another clinch. He tried for a single-leg, but Adesanya defended. The champion hit a solid jab, then ate a combination of hooks. It was another clean sheet victory for Adesanya.

  • FIBA World Cup Qualifiers: Alan Major Blames High Turnover For D’Tigers’ Loss

D’Tigers stand-in head coach, Alan Major says the team must take care of the ball when they face Mali in their next game after the 70-79 points loss to Cape Verde at the on-going FIBA World Cup qualifiers

He highlighted the team’s turnover ratio and rebound efforts which he said was responsible for the team’s 70-79pts loss despite crediting the team for their resilience and hardwork.

“They (Cape Verde) had 16 points from our turnovers, 11 second-chance points from 16 offensive rebounds. These are some things we can clean up, but I do like the effort. We fought back and had the lead, but we gave up a big put back to Williams Tavares.

“Congratulations to Cape Verde, they played well. They got a cushion on us at halftime. I thought our guys did a great job by fighting back to take the lead towards the end of the match, but you know in a game like this, you do not have much margin for error”, Major explained.

He said the team got scared towards the end of the game and rushed their plays in a quest to restore their lead, giving their opponent the winning edge.

“We just have to go back, watch some films, clean up some things and be ready to play tomorrow”.

After winning the first quarter, 15-14 points, Cape Verde took charge in the second quarter, 25-11 to head into halftime with a 39-26pts lead.

D’Tigers’ performance in the second quarter haunted the team despite a spirited effort in the second half, 21-17, 17-17pts

Ikenna Ndugba and Christian Mekowulu led the scoring for D’Tigers and Uchenna Iroegbu contributed 12 points. Mekowulu picked 13 rebounds while Benjamin Emelogu had 4.

Chimezie Metu posted a double-double performance with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He said the team wanted a win but lost to a more prepared team.

“We wanted to go out there and try to win the game. We did that for stretches of the game but Cape Verde played together. They have been together and practicing more than we have”.

He believes the team has what it takes to win their next two games and finish the first round strongly. The team has seven (7) points from four (4) matches and will face Mali tomorrow (Saturday)

  • Breaking: Tottenham Officially Sign £60m Brazilian Star From Everton

Premier league side Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Brazillian attacker Richarlison from Everton.

Truthlive.net learned that the deal could be worth an eventual £60 million when performance-related add-ons are taken into consideration.

Richarlison, 25, underwent his medical in Brazil on Thursday and has joined the north London club on a five-year deal.

It is understood Everton rejected a £40 million bid for Richarlison on Wednesday before the offer was raised significantly. Another club showed late interest in him but that was not enough to stop Spurs completing the deal.

The Brazilian had been at Everton since 2018 scoring 53 goals in 152 appearances, but wanted to test himself on the European stage.

Tottenham will give Richarlison the platform to do just that as Conte’s side qualified for the Champions League by finishing in fourth place last season.

Richarlison, who has been capped 36 times by Brazil, joined Everton from Watford in a deal worth £40 million that also included a 10 per cent sell-on clause.

He scored 10 goals in 30 Premier League games last season to help Everton stay in the top flight.

Richarlison becomes Tottenham’s fourth signing of the summer, joining Yves Bissouma, Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic in north London.
