Don’t Bring Back Subsidy! Kalu Warns Tinubu, Says Hunger Still Bites

ABA, NIGERIA – Former Abia State Governor and current Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has warned against returning Nigeria to the petroleum subsidy regime, describing it as “a very big scam,” Punch Newspaper reports.

Speaking to journalists at his Igbere residence on Tuesday, Kalu said subsidizing food and agriculture would be more beneficial for Nigerians grappling with economic hardship.

“The President knows people are hungry, and he is working to ensure the country is pulled out of hunger,” Kalu told Punch, backing President Bola Tinubu’s economic agenda.

He called on Nigerians across political lines to support Tinubu, noting, “President Tinubu has done very well in the last two years. Let us come together and support him.”

Kalu argued that while economic challenges persist, progress is evident, especially in stabilizing the exchange rate over the past nine months.

“In the next two to three years, the economy will be stabilized,” he said. “I know people are suffering—I pay people, I manufacture, I sell.”

According to Punch, Kalu emphasized that his remarks were based on national interest, not party loyalty. “I’m not part of the economic team. I speak as a citizen,” he clarified.

On security, Kalu defended his record as governor, saying he laid the foundation for a safer Aba through the Bakassi Boys’ collaboration with security agencies.

“There’s nowhere in Africa that doesn’t know Aba and Enyimba City,” he told Punch. “I built Aba to use its resources to develop other places.”

Addressing his recent visit to Governor Alex Otti, Kalu said the meeting focused on development, especially his plan to establish five factories in Igbere within a year.

Kalu reaffirmed his commitment to the All Progressives Congress, stating, “I’m APC to the core. To suspend me, you must go to the NEC.”

He concluded by urging unity and long-term national vision, saying, “We’re building a strong democracy. It’s not a job done in a day,” Truth Live News gathered.

  • Global Job Skills Shake-Up: 40% Set To Become Obsolete By 2030 – AI Workforce Pioneer Warns

WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM – Rapid workforce changes and static training systems are widening global employment gaps, according to experts at the World Economic Forum’s 2025 New Champions Meeting.

Joanna Riley, CEO of Censia, warned that “skills gaps are today’s defining workforce challenge,” and failure to act risks entrenching inequality and long-term joblessness.

Nearly 40% of current core job skills will become obsolete by 2030, the Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 found, citing data from global employers.

Despite this, 63% of companies say skills shortages remain the biggest barrier to business transformation, highlighting systemic inaction and outdated national frameworks.

Riley argued, “Outdated systems like static taxonomies can’t meet exponential change,” adding that countries need AI-driven, real-time skills intelligence to respond effectively.

She stressed that skills must be seen “not as currency, but as infrastructure,” essential to long-term economic resilience, innovation and mobility.

Countries like Lithuania and Bahrain face up to 87% skill disruption, far higher than Denmark’s 29%, due to regional instability and outdated policy tools.

The article recommends transitioning from skills identification to empowerment, actively building capabilities, using AI and machine learning to make fragmented data actionable.

The World Economic Forum’s Global Skills Taxonomy Toolkit urges nations to standardize skills verification and embed real-time tracking into labor systems.

Such changes, Riley noted, will help match workers with new roles, “using validated data to direct talent to where it’s needed most.”

Without swift adoption of intelligent, adaptable systems, experts warn that outdated frameworks could further entrench underemployment, stifle growth and increase economic fragility.

  • Commissioners Ibanga, Ememobong, Bob Resigned Instead Of Defecting, Citing Gov.  Eno’s Directive, LEADERSHIP Weekend Revealed

UYO, NIGERIA – Fifteen out of 26 Akwa Ibom House of Assembly lawmakers loyal to former Governor Udom Emmanuel refused to defect to the APC, Leadership newspaper reported.

One lawmaker told Leadership anonymously, “We were elected on the PDP platform and remain committed to the people who voted us in.”

Their refusal contrasts with 11 others, including Speaker Udeme Otong, who followed Governor Umo Bassey Eno, to the APC during a ceremony in Uyo.

Three commissioners Eno Ibanga, Emem Almond Bob, and Iniobong Ememobong, also resigned from Eno’s cabinet rather than join the ruling party, Leadership newspaper confirmed.

“I have tendered my resignation in compliance with the governor’s directive,” Ememobong wrote, explaining his principled refusal to join Eno in the APC.

The commissioners, mostly nominees of Udom Emmanuel, reportedly resigned to preserve political integrity and avoid conflicting loyalties, Leadership newspaper gathered.

Local government chairman Gideon Uwah of Etim Ekpo also declined to defect, citing a personal commitment to the PDP’s development agenda.

According to Leadership, several other PDP-aligned council chairmen quietly distanced themselves from Eno’s defection, preferring to wait out the political storm.

Former governor Udom Emmanuel and former PDP legal adviser Emmanuel Enoidem both stayed away from the defection event, Leadership reported.

Enoidem had reportedly appealed to Eno not to leave the PDP, warning that the move would destabilize long-standing party structures in the state.

Despite these objections, Eno told attendees, “I have decided to progressively move to the APC,” emphasizing his strategic intentions for 2027.

Political observers told Leadership that the defection presents a moral test for public officeholders balancing loyalty with ambition.

Some PDP loyalists believe staying is a matter of principle, not convenience, insisting elected officials owe accountability to their party and voters.

“The people elected us under one platform,” a PDP lawmaker told Leadership. “Switching parties midstream feels like breaking a contract with the electorate.”

Governor Eno assured critics that his administration remains inclusive, but PDP loyalists argue defection weakens trust in political consistency.

Truth Live News reports that the defection has triggered realignment, but also revealed a bloc of stakeholders unwilling to compromise their mandate or party values.

  • Commissioner Resigns As Gov. Eno Orders Appointees To Join APC Or Leave

UYO, NIGERIA – Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port, Comrade Ini Ememobong, has resigned.

In a letter dated June 6, 2025, Ememobong cited political convictions as the reason for his resignation.

Governor Umo Eno had reportedly asked appointees to join the All Progressives Congress or quit his cabinet.

“I will be unable to join the All Progressives Congress,” Ememobong wrote in his resignation letter.

The letter was received and stamped by the Governor’s Office on the same day.

Ememobong said he values the opportunity to have served under the administration.

“The experience garnered within this period has been very enlightening,” he stated.

He appreciated Governor Eno for trusting him with two critical ministries during his tenure.

“I profoundly value the privileged opportunity to have served,” Ememobong added.

His decision follows the governor’s directive for appointees to switch from the PDP to the APC.

Observers see his resignation as a principled stand in defense of political choice.

Ememobong’s resignation raises concerns over growing political realignment in the state’s executive council.

Neither the governor nor his media team has officially responded to the development.

Political analysts said the move reflects tension between loyalty and ideology.

“People shouldn’t be forced to abandon their political beliefs,” they told our reporter.

The resignation may trigger further exits from the cabinet as the state navigates party shifts.

Ememobong’s exit marks a significant moment in Akwa Ibom’s political transition under Governor Eno.
