Youths in Owukpa, Benue State, have taken to the streets to protest the recent abduction of female traders in the area.
The abduction occurred on the weekend when suspected armed men hijacked a Benue Links vehicle and took several female passengers captive along the Owukpa-Orokam road.
The attackers, believed to be armed herdsmen, ambushed the vehicle near the Eyiupi community as the victims were traveling from Orba market in Enugu to Owukpa.
The kidnappers have not made any contact with the families of the victims or made any demands since the incident.
The protest by the youths has led to the blockade of the Orokam-Owukpa-Okpoga road, with travelers from Enugu and neighboring communities currently stranded.
The youths are demanding action from the government to rescue the victims, insisting that nobody should leave or enter the community until something is done.
