In a decisive operation, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven arrested a suspected militia member and recovered weapons in Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, on Friday, May 30.
The early morning raid in Hura village followed credible intelligence, leading to the discovery of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, 26 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, N2,500 in cash, and suspected charms at the suspect’s hideout.
Preliminary investigations link the suspect to a criminal syndicate responsible for the murder of a herder and the rustling of 1,250 cows in Tomborong village, Riyom LGA, on May 27.
A military source confirmed the suspect is in custody and providing information on other syndicate members and their weapon caches.
The operation underscores the military’s intensified efforts to curb criminal activities in Plateau State, with troops actively pursuing the remaining syndicate members.
